The Pros
In the manual, there are four levels of ability: Beginner, Intermediate I, Intermediate II and Advanced. Each level consists of 4-week cycles and each week, the workouts will get a little bit harder. 5 Training Errors in Ball Handling Moves
Unfortunately, for a lot of basketball coaches, trainers and game enthusiasts out there, there isn’t much info readily accessible available particular to basketball. Certainly, a lot from the “other” info is fairly general and applicable to a lot of sports, including basketball, but that is not sufficient!

Here are the 5 most common training mistakes I see in basketball players today:
1. Basketball players play too much basketball
You may think I’m crazy, but I’m not. Basketball game enthusiasts play daily and sometimes for hours on end. There is a point at which diminishing returns takes over.
When players play so much, they reach a plateau. Their game will always be below par and their desire to keep trying to get better will fade. The thing they used to love to do is now a chore which causes them to play less often. When they do play, it is a chore rather than the fun thing they used to love.
Players should opt for 2 to 3 times a week at least during the off-season.
2. Basketball players don’t spend enough time practicing their skills and practicing ball handling moves.
Skills such as how to dribble a basketball better requires extra practice time for improvement. Practicing your basketball training drills should transfer over to your real games making you a better basketball player.
So playing 2 or 3 times a week and then practicing those ball handling moves and dribbling skills 2 to 3 times a week will provide the biggest benefit. Notice that is 5 times a week at most.
3. Basket ball players need better overall strength.
Why is strength important? All athletic abilities are based on a person’s overall strength. In basketball, strength precedes speed and explosiveness. The stronger a player is the faster the player can run and the higher the player can jump.
Strength also provides some protection against getting hurt as well as a player’s ability to heal quickly. Improving your strength will definitely have a huge impact on your ball handling moves.
4. Basketball players have weak ankles.
Because of high-top shoes, ankle braces, and no ankle mobility, players often have weak ankles making them prone to injury. So, how do you prevent ankle injury? Try playing with shoes with lower tops. If they feel odd, it is because now your ankles actually have to do some work. If you’re not used to lower-top shoes, break them in slowly. Playing without ankle braces, even if you’ve recently been injured is also a good idea. Be sure to work your ankles by moving them through a full range of motion to improve their mobility.
5. Basketball players need recovery time
With all the suggestions made in 1 through 4 above, you need to remember that just like other kinds of athletes such as body builders, you must take time between playing and basketball training drills for your body to recover. While training and practicing your ball handling moves, you are causing damage to your body and during the recovery time, your body gets better and can handle the stress from exercises and building itself stronger than it was before.
Also helpful in recovery and strength building is a good diet, adequate stretching, massage, and sleeping. Recovery is a necessary step in the training process.
